I recently ran across a gentleman by the name of Ryan Wilcott with Stuppy Inc. Greenhouse Design, Manufacturing & Construction of North Kansas City. What he has pledged to do is amazing, I wish we all had the time and will power to help those that will replace us. From what I can tell he has noticed that schools are severely lacking in their vegetable choice and has pledged his proceeds from the Tour de Fresh, http://www.tourdefresh.com/, to a school outside Dallas, TX, http://www.uplifteducation.org/Domain/884, so that they can have their very own salad bar.
Why is it that in this day and age we as a society are less interested in our children's health than we our in whether or not Mrs. Trump used a couple lines from an old speech? Today obesity is at an all time high and only climbing. Now I understand that in a society like our own very few people have the time to ensure they are eating the right foods and teaching their children the right foods to eat. I'm guilty of it also. McDonalds happy meals taste great and are cheap. More importantly the kids love them.
But ask yourself, where will they be with their children if we don't teach them how to grow and obtain healthy food.
Now I understand that we don't all live near farmers or farmer's markets for that matter, but we all have at least an hour in our days that we can give to our children.
With a well designed and functioning aquaponics system a family is easily able to supplement or even totally provide their family's vegetable needs. With a little more work and space even supplement their protein intake.
